"Regulation of the AAA-type ATPase Vps4"
In eukaryotic cells the degradation of transmembrane proteins in the
lysosome is mediated by the protein sorting function of the ESCRT
complexes. Regulating the ESCRTs is essential to ensure proper cell surface
protein composition and therefore plays an important role in numerous
cellular functions such as nutrient uptake, cell communication and immune
response. The AAA-type ATPase Vps4 controls the membrane association of the
ESCRT machinery and therefore is a key factor in the regulation of the
lysosomal degradation pathway.
