Abstract: We will present several mathematical models for studying
reaction-diffusion processes wherein both noise in the chemical
reaction
process and diffusion of individual molecules may be important. In
particular, we will examine the relation between the
reaction-diffusion
master equation model of spatially distributed stochastic chemical
kinetics and models that track individual particles. Our analysis will
demonstrate the importance of modeling point binding, equivalently
binding to a small target, in understanding the reaction-diffusion
master equation.
