"Effects of Fluid Shear Stress on Endothelial Cell Function"
November 19
3:05pm in LCB 225
Vascular endothelial cells line the inner wall of blood vessels and
are constantly subjected to shear stress due to blood flow. There is
ample evidence that shear stress play a key role in the maintenance of
vascular integrity and the guidance of vascular remodeling, as well as
the development of vascular diseases. This lecture will address what
is currently known regarding the flow-induced mechanotransduction in
vascular endothelial cells and the ensuing changes in endothelial cell
function. Special emphases will be placed on flow modulation of the
migration and intercellular junction of endothelial cells as they
pertain to atheroscelerosis development.
