From a colleague at MIT via the Arpanet, we heard that Bolt, Beranek, and Newman (better known as BBN) in Cambridge, MA has just announced a terminal called the BitGraph Terminal. It has a 40 Hz interlaced 15 inch monochrome monitor, a 7 MHz MC68000, 128 Kbyte of RAM, 32 KByte of ROM, and 64K bytes of EAROM, 4 RS232 ports up to 19.2 Kbps, one 20 ma current loop interface, and EIA RS-422 synchronous HDLC serial link up to 200 Kbps, all on one board. There is a Motorola Versabus expansion bus for additional memory and IO, with a maximum memory of 2 Mbytes, and a speaker and programmable sound generator. The BitGraph Terminal has a DEC VT-100 keyboard, and the software in ROM emulates a VT52 and a Teleray xxxx. Future software may include Hewlett-Packard and Tektronix 4010 graphics terminal emulation. Code and fonts are downloadable. The quoted price is $4500 in single quantities. This terminal looks very interesting, although the use of the Versabus instead of the more widely-used Multibus is unfortunate (though I have heard it claimed that the Versabus has its advantages). [24-Apr-82] A User's Guide for the BitGraph V2.0 terminal was published in March of this year, and can be obtained from the manufacturer, Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc., 10 Moulton St, Cambridge, MA 02238, USA, Tel: (617) 491-1850.
