The BBN BitGraph uses the Motorola Versabus, while other terminals developed around the Stanford SUN terminal board are using the Multibus. At the time of the last review [06-Nov-81], no companies were in commercial production. Now, CADLINC Inc., 8600 W. Bryn Mawr, Chicago, IL 60631, USA, Tel: (312) 693-6700, has a graphics workstation in production. A variety of configurations are available, ranging from a straight graphics terminal for $8500 up to a complete workstation with 27-Mbyte disk with the Unix operating system and a FORTRAN compiler for about $32K. One would expect that as more manufacturers enter the market with comparable equipment, significant price cuts are likely. In the alphanumeric terminal manufacturing industry, the construction cost represents about 30% of the single-unit market price, so there is ample room for price maneuvering once sales volumes and competition make it desirable.
